First pics of Athens

Hotel Grande Bretagne is as it's name implies - grand. We did a walk up through a nearby neighborhood after we got checked in. (Thank GOD for George and his ability to speak the language)... Here are a few pics of our first day out.
Parliament - across the plaza from our hotel.  The people who work here have a huge amount of difficult work to do to save their country.

A little plaza that used to be a huge, wide, bustling, boulevard full of cars and exhaust.  Now it's a leafy paradise of cafes, coffee shops and uber-chic Athenians.  Had some lovely knosh here.

Some happy guys

Enchanting architecture of an ancient church set right in the midst of busy, bustling Athens

Another Crumbly - I'll post more about what these structures are when I learn more during some of the upcoming downtime

All these magnificent crumblies are set right in the middle of the functioning city.  Amazing.

Right up the street from some people's homes - we had part II of our first lunch in Athens right on this boulevard.

Set on the chain link fence surrounding an archeological preservation site, somebody put this brass sculpture up.  Caught my eye - these are, after all, the grounds where the highest art form (in my opinion - theatrical performance) was first invented.

Another ancient building that we viewed from our al Fresco dining location.

Where the rich people live?  Dunno... but sure it beautiful.

More crumblies... no, I'm not talking about John.... !
