The journey from Athens to Crete was more or less uneventful - interesting how different they "do" security in Europe - no shoes off, and the ID check is up to the airline just as you are boarding. Aegean Air was lovely - a 45 minute hop over the Aegean sea and the Greek Isles - and we were on the ground in Heraclion (it actually took longer to drive to the Athens airport than to fly to Crete). 140 Km later (about 2 hours) we were in Chania, and in the villa. Beautiful grounds - and a sensational house. Apricot tree in the backyard heavily laden with fruit.
Below - view of the pool and the Aegean sea in the background. The weather is slightly cooler than Athens, and the legendary blue seas lived up to their reputation. Stunning.
