Deep Thoughts by Jeff Fanselow*

*Note: None of these thoughts are particularly deep or as "quippy" as the ones by Jack Handley. They are, however, random thoughts by Jeff Fanselow about our experiences thus far in Greece.

  • The people who said 2 days in Athens was enough are wrong! The people are as amazing as the sites and history.

  • The Greeks like to eat..ALOT! (especially Cretans)  We are definitely NOT going hungry.
  • U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" could have been written about this place. Street signs are not readily available. When they are, you hear the Americans in us saying either, "what letter is that?" or "how the heck do you pronounce it?" Occasionally we'll add an "eh?" to the end of the statement so we can say we're from Canada, if necessary.
  • When people ask where we're from, we say, "San Francisco". Lots of smiles ensue.
  • Vacation is HIGHLY under-rated. We work way too hard and need to slow down. I guarantee all of our blood pressure levels have reduced significantly. :-)
  • As such, I have yet to even check my work email (sorry Per and thanks for holding down the fort!)

The pic above is the band Thith practicing for their upcoming world tour. They play Slim's in San Francisco on August 3rd (yes, that's a shameless plug!)

  • Raki (the Greek equivalent to grappa) starts off hard, warms your tummy, and then goes down smooth. It's also cheaper than crack! We bought a 1.5 litre bottle that a grocer had made for 5 euros. At a few of the restaurants, they bring it to your table when they bring you dessert, without you asking. They do NOT charge you for it. So while I don't know what the price of crack is, I do know that no one has ever brought free crack to my table at a restaurant before. (thank God!)
  • Everyone should spend at least an hour a day (preferably more) in an outdoor pool in the sunshine - cocktails are optional though highly recommended!

  • Sunsets are important!
  • So are great friends to travel with - love yinz Mark, George, Jim, and John!

Details about the Samarian Gorge to follow within the next day or so. Stay tuned!

  1. Awesome to see that everyone is having a great time. Jeff, well deserved. We miss you (Kajsa as well) but please don't think about work or anything remotely related to work until you get back to the US. All is well and you'll find the place as you left it ... with only a little damage done here and there. ;-)

    Miss you buddy!
